Market Report July 2001
Back to news index
Lavender
Distillation of this year's crop should start towards the end of this month. Some small parcels
of alleged Bulgarian material from last year's crop are being offered but, on closer analysis,
turn out to be Russian material. The total acreage in Bulgaria is about on a par with last
year but a lot of the plants are past their best. French producers are not giving any
indications as yet (as usual) but we will be making our annual visit to the South of France and
Bulgaria to monitor the crop.
Olive Oil
Due to concerns about the carcinogenic properties of Spanish material, a number of large
distributors and supermarkets have pulled all Olive Oil of Spanish origin from stock. A number
of our soap manufacturing customers use Olive Pomace Oil in the production but we do not
offer Spanish material. We only sell Greek Extra Virgin Oil. Prices are advancing for this
oil and shortages are expected.
Orange Oil
Further to earlier reports, the price continues to rise from all origins.
Lemongrass Guatemala
New crop should commence in the coming weeks, but only limited quantities will be available.
Camomile Roman
As promised, we have uploaded a few pictures from this year's distillation.
Web watch
This month we continue with a multiple 'click for free' option. Most of you are well aware of
the hungersite.com, now you can save over 14 square feet of
Rainforest by going to www.therainforestsite.com and follow
the trail to click for free. This same site will give you access to www.thekidsaidssite.com,
and www.breastcancersite.com along with
www.thechildsurvivalsite.com. Companies who
donate a percentage of their proceeds are also listed, should you wish to further support the
charity of your choice
