Market Report June 2001
Back to news index
Borage Seed Oil
Prices for this high G.L.A. Oil have dropped alarmingly over the last year, and are at
historically low levels. We can now offer at substantially lower prices, and welcome your
enquiries for any quantity.
Mobile stills don't come much bigger than this... or do they?
Camomile Roman
This year's UK crop in will start distillation in the coming weeks. The total acreage planted
will be down on last season and yields may be further affected by bad weather earlier this
year. Current guesstimates reckon that oil production will be lower by at least 10 per cent
but the carry over from last year's crop should offset this shortfall.
We think that the mobile distillation unit used to distill our Camomile, pictured above, is
the largest mobile still in Europe, if not the World. If anyone knows of a larger unit, please
let us know and we'll try to get some pictures it. Look out, too, for pictures of this year's
Camomile distillation next month...
Black Pepper
As the year progresses, Black Pepper oil becomes more attractively priced. There is abundant
stock and we should see a further decline in price in the next few months.
Evening Primrose Oil
Due to global over-production, especially in China and Eastern Europe, prices for this oil
are very competitive. We can offer material with G.L.A. content in excess of 10 per cent from
both UK and East European production, ex stock.
Geranium Oil
Reports are reaching us of a possible increase in price of Chinese material due to lower than
average rainfall in Yunnan Province. No sign of movement yet on Egyptian Oil.
Neroli Oil
Both Tunisian and Spanish crops are completed. Prices have advanced over last years levels,
and our Tunisian Distiller informs us the their production is lower than last year by about
12 per cent. Stocks are selling fast.
Patchouli
Material continues to sell at March levels, with no alarming reports coming from source of
exceptionally lower yields from this season's distillation. Patchoulol levels are in excess of
30 per cent and spot stocks are plentiful at this time. However, the market for this oil can
change on a whim or the slightest panic buying spree, so be prepared.
Clove Bud Oil
Madagascan material has already passed FF 400 kilo, and at these levels, no-one wants to
distill the Leaf Oil, so prices will definitely advance.
Orange Oil
Cost of Brazilian material has increased on reports of new crop projections being lower than
previously expected and carryover stocks being sold off quickly.
More Genetic products for UK
As you are aware, the Labour Party has won a landslide election campaign. I wonder if the
voting public is aware that the Government in the UK has allocated 30 per cent of the
'Food Research Budget' to Genetic Modification and a measly 2 per cent to Organic Production?
Web watch
One of the many things we take for granted is the easy access to water. Did you know every
eight seconds a child in the developing world will die from disease caused by unsafe
water? One of the supply companies in the UK has pledged £150,000 (US$ 210,000) if their
site reaches two million hits. You don't have to pay anything or donate any money or even
leave your e-mail address; just hit the site at www.givewater.org. Thank you!
